Advancing Musculoskeletal Science on Capitol Hill

In late June 2026, Dr. Meghan McGee-Lawrence traveled to Washington, D.C., to help organize and take part in a Congressional briefing focused on musculoskeletal health. Held on Capitol Hill, the briefing was co-hosted by the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research (ASBMR) in partnership with the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) and the Orthopaedic Research Society (ORS).

The event brought researchers and legislative staff together to discuss the substantial burden of musculoskeletal pain, the current directions of research addressing it, and future opportunities to accelerate scientific progress. Coordinated with the Congressional Longevity Science Caucus and the Addiction, Treatment, and Recovery (ATR) Caucus, the briefing created a valuable forum for meaningful dialogue between the scientific community and policymakers.

Conversations like these help shape how emerging research is understood and prioritized in national policy discussions. We are proud to see Dr. McGee-Lawrence lend her expertise to this effort to raise awareness of musculoskeletal health and to advocate for continued investment in bone, cartilage, and orthopaedic research.
